Appointment of Enduring Guardian

An Appointment of Enduring Guardian is a legal documents in which you appoint someone (your guardian) to make personal or lifestyle decisions for you if you can no longer make your own decisions.

An Appointment of Enduring Guardian can only be made by an adult with decision making capacity.

You can appoint an enduring guardian to take responsibility for making health and lifestyle decisions for you. You can choose what type of decisions your guardian can make for you, such as where you live, which doctor you go to, and what medical or dental treatment and other services you receive.

It is different from an enduring power of attorney which only authorises the person you appoint (your attorney) to make decisions about your money and property.
